The Permit Technician is an entry-level, paraprofessional position that serves as the first line contact for the City’s citizens and customers at the front counter. Individuals in this position perform a variety of routine and complex administrative and technical duties/tasks to support the permitting, land use, licensing, code enforcement and administrative functions of the organization, including but not limited to processing payments, answering and directing phone calls, preparing correspondence and other documents as directed, maintaining meeting calendars, logging and routing code enforcement complaints, and responding to inquiries from the public. The position is responsible for providing timely, courteous and effective assistance to customers by answering general questions, processing permit applications, preparing and routing correspondence, issuing permits, scheduling inspections, and assisting with code compliance.
Working with the public is a primary job function which requires strong customer service and computer software experience. A significant amount of time is devoted to routine administrative tasks, assisting internal and external customers, ensuring compliance with land use notification requirements, and facilitating permit review. This position is a primary member of the front counter staff and is expected to work in person during normal business hours.
