Part Time Intern: $15 Hourly

Are you a recent high school graduate or a senior high school student eager to explore a career in public works and infrastructure maintenance? The City of Highland Village is thrilled to offer an educational internship within our Streets Division, providing a unique opportunity for young individuals to gain hands-on experience while contributing to the enhancement of our community.

As a High School Intern in our Streets Department, you will have the chance to learn essential skills and techniques under the mentorship of our experienced team. This internship is designed to provide valuable insights into streets maintenance, infrastructure repair, and traffic control activities, setting a strong foundation for your future academic and career pursuits.

Examples of objectives you will get experience in are:

  • Repair work in both asphalt and concrete
  • Participates in traffic control activities
  • Maintenance and repair on various structures ex: sidewalks, driveway, street signs. 
  • Become familiar with manual, gas, and hand held equipment such as shovels, saws, wrenches
  • Become familiar with various vehicles and equipment such as front end loaders, compactors, jack hammers, service trucks. 

The Intern will be required to complete OSHA 10 Certification and NHI Flagger Training- certifications paid by The City of Highland Village. These certifications provide value for future endeavors in construction or similar fields.

Job Requirements

  • Recent high school graduate or Senior in high school 
  • Must be able to work outside in adverse environments
  • Interest in pursuing a career in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and a willingness to learn
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Commitment to safety protocols and following instructions diligently
