We're hiring Police Officers to fill current vacancies and have an expedited hiring process for Entry Level, Entry Level-Advanced, and Lateral Officers!

Lateral/Experienced Police Officer Hiring Bonus: Up to $25,000 bonus and $5,000 moving expenses; start at higher pay step and vacation accrual.

Provide a wide range of police services to the public including but not limited to enforcing laws, protecting life and property, maintaining peace and order, providing public service, crime prevention, and investigating civil and criminal matters.

2024 Collective Bargaining Agreement and pay rates will be available soon!

(2023 rates) $79,084.08 - $97,543.08 annually, plus:

 Education pay: 3.00% - 6.00% 

 Longevity: 2.00% to 9.0%

 Specialty Pay: 3.50% - 5.00% 

 Paid Time Off:

  • 96-200 hours of paid vacation per year
  • 96-156 hours of paid leave per year in lieu of holidays (based on scheduled work hours (e.g., "a day for a day") and assignment (non-patrol/patrol))
  • 96 hours of paid sick leave per year
  • Front-loaded sick leave bank of 80 hours
  • Unused sick leave cash-out
  • Paid bereavement leave

 Health Insurance:

  • The City pays 100% of medical, dental and vision insurance premiums for employees
  • The City pays 90% of medical and dental insurance and 100% of vision insurance premiums for dependents
  • High-Deductible Health Plan with Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • Health Reimbursement Account/VEBA employer contribution available
  • City-paid life insurance, long-term disability, AD&D

 Retirement Plans:

  • Deferred Compensation (457 Plan) Plans 
  • Washington State LEOFF II retirement system

 Uniforms and Clothing:

  • Initial uniforms and equipment are provided by the City
  • Annual uniform/clothing allowance of $900.00 for non-uniformed positions
  • City pays for uniform/clothing cleaning

 Scheduling:

  • Popular 12-hour rotating patrol schedule with a 3-days on and 3-days off

 Training and Professional Development:

  • Robust training program and professional development plans

 Requirements:

  • Be a United States Citizen
  • High school graduate or equivalent 
  • A minimum of 21 years of age
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License and the ability to obtain a Washington State Driver's License within 30 days of hire
  • Ability to pass a variety of exams, such as physical fitness, psychological evaluation, medical, and polygraph
  • Ability to pass a background investigation
  • Able to work variable shifts including nights, weekends and holiday hours
  • Commence basic training during the first six months of employment
  • Successfully complete basic training and maintain certification as a peace officer
  • Successfully complete field training program
