Description Maintenance Worker – Golf 158-D01

Job Summary:
Maintain the grounds and facilities of the City’s municipal golf course and other facilities as assigned. Maintain equipment, turf, landscaping, grounds, irrigation systems, and perform other duties as assigned.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities: This information is intended to be descriptive of the principle duties and responsibilities of the position. The following examples do not identify all duties performed by any single incumbent.
1) Maintain the putting greens and tees by watering, reseeding, manicuring, spiking, topdressing and mowing using specialized (walking and riding) equipment.
2) Maintain sand traps, fairways, and roughs by raking, watering, edging, spiking, aerifying, weeding, and manicuring.
3) Maintain course greens / grounds by picking up debris, trimming trees, mowing grass, changing trash bags in trash cans, landscaping grounds, repairing equipment, cleaning restrooms, new construction, concrete mason, signage, and other golf course related maintenance.
4) Help control vegetation and growth; prepare, apply and properly dispose of pesticides. Develop and apply knowledge of industry standard golf course maintenance practices for a first class course.
5) Provide customer service and rule enforcement at the golf course.
6) Assist with department activities and special events as assigned.
7) Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Knowledge and understanding of basic operational, technical, and vocational skills. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school.
• Working knowledge in basic maintenance areas such as: mowing, landscaping, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, concrete, masonry, painting, pesticide (preparation, application, and disposal), horticulture, custodial, welding and/or metal fabrication, and turf, irrigation, turf grass maintenance, shrub and tree planting.
• Knowledge of the tools, turf equipment, methods, and practices of grounds and turf maintenance on golf course grounds and facilities.
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to provide courteous customer service to internal and external customers.
• Ability to work well with others.
• Ability to assist with department wide activities and special events.
• Ability to work an irregular work schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance.
• Ability to respond during emergencies.
• Ability to work under varied climatic conditions.
• Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids:
• Mower, tractor, utility carts, weed eater, chain saw, rock saw, backhoe, leaf blower, truck, hedge trimmer, hand tools, power tools, jack hammer, nail gun, grinder, buffer, table saw, paint gun, shovels
• Hard hat, safety vest, ear protection, gloves, safety goggles, steel toe boots, back support belt, dust mask.

Education, Certification and Experience Required:
• Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent with one year of related experience.
• One year of agronomy experience is preferred.
• Possession of a valid Texas Class C driver’s license.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Duties are generally performed citywide in both outdoor and indoor settings. This is medium to heavy work requiring the exertion of fifty (50) pounds of force occasionally, up to twenty (20) pounds of force frequently, and up to ten (10) pounds of force constantly to move, lift and push objects. Work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, pushing and pulling. This position is subject to outside environmental conditions, including extreme cold, extreme heat, hazards, and atmospheric conditions.

Special Requirements:
• Ability to work an irregular work schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Work may require the occasional direction of helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns or temporary employees.
• Subject to 24 hour call during emergencies.
