Description | Water Production Assistant Superintendent 202-D01 Job Summary: Oversee the operations of the water production facilities and ensure compliance with all TCEQ, EPA and other relevant regulations. Supervise personnel and perform process control duties as directed by Water Production Superintendent. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: This information is intended to be descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position. The following examples do not identify all duties performed by any single incumbent. 1. Supervise the Water Treatment Plant by determining proper feed rates, adjusting chemical feeds, use standard method for testing chemical concentrations. 2. Prepare hardware and treated water for discharge into distribution system. 3. Write reports, compile data, and distribute this data as directed by the Water Production Superintendent. 4. Oversee the general maintenance of water systems by coordinating routine maintenance duties, emergency repairs, and daily assignments; assist operators with daily operations. 5. Assist with the departmental budget by managing petty cash disbursements, maintaining records, monitoring expenditures, and making reports to the Water Production Superintendent. 6. Provide training to new personnel on plant operations, policies, and procedures. 7. Maintain the safety program by ensuring personnel have necessary safety equipment, adhere to proper safety techniques, and procedures. 8. Work directly with Water Production Superintendent, report decisions on process control adjustments, and assignments of duties to subordinates. 9. Assist in developing and managing the annual budget and all related tasks. 10. Perform other duties as may be assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Working knowledge of Water Production systems, procedures, and regulations. • Good supervisory skills. • Thorough record keeping skills. • Good problem-solving skills. • Ability to maintain good and acceptable working relationships with staff, other government officials and members of the public. • Ability to work an irregular schedule, including weekends, evenings, holidays, and emergency call-outs. • Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance. Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids: • Computer and related software, monitoring equipment, telephone, hand tools, testing equipment • Hard hat, steel toe boots, rubber boots, gloves, sunscreen Education Certification and Experience Required: • Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent and four years of experience in Water Production or a related field. Supervisory experience is preferred. • Possession of a valid Texas Driver’s License. • Possession of, or obtain within five years of employment, a Class B Surface Water Operator License. • Possession of, or obtain within one year of employment, a Class C Ground Water Operator License. • Possession of, or obtain within one year of employment, a Class C Surface Water Operator License. Physical and Environmental Conditions: Duties are generally performed citywide in both outdoor and indoor settings. This is medium to heavy work requiring the exertion of fifty (50) pounds of force occasionally, up to twenty (20) pounds of force frequently, and up to ten (10) pounds of force constantly to move, lift and push objects. Work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, pushing and pulling. This position is subject to outside environmental conditions, including extreme cold, extreme heat, hazards, and atmospheric conditions, as well as exposure to unpleasant and contaminated substances. Special Requirements: • Subject to working weekends, nights, holidays and emergencies. • Subject to 24-hour on-call, serve on a rotation duty schedule for weekend duty and night call-outs, and to respond to emergency call-outs as required. • Work requires supervising and monitoring performance for a regular group of employees or a work unit, and may include providing input on hiring/disciplinary actions and work objectives/effectiveness, and realigning work as needed.
