Pronounced “pear-land,” like the fruit, Pearland has been among the top five fastest-growing cities in Texas, and the top 10 fastest-growing cities in the country, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Pearland is a broad geographic footprint: 48.84 square miles spanning three counties — Harris, Brazoria, and Fort Bend. The population is 130,000 in the city proper and 7.4 million in the greater metro area.

Living in Pearland offers the ideal residential lifestyle — incredible schools, in an extremely safe and beautiful environment. It is also close to many world-class events and attractions, including the Houston Zoo; Minute Maid Park, home of the World Series Champion Houston Astros; the Pearland Town Center; the Houston Galleria; the Kemah Boardwalk near Galveston; the William P. Hobby Airport; and some of the largest medical centers in the world, including the famous M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

The City of Pearland operates under a Council-Manager form of government. The City Council, made up of a mayor and seven council members, is responsible for enacting legislation, adopting budgets, and determining policies. Each council member is elected at-large in staggered three-year terms. Each council member is limited to two consecutive terms, while the Mayor is not subject to term limits.

The City of Pearland is looking for a highly collaborative, people-first leader to demonstrate high performance while being dedicated to serving our innovative community of choice.  The ideal candidate will come with ideas in hand, an enthusiastic attitude, and a willingness to learn and adapt.

The next Assistant City Manager should be comfortable communicating in both casual and professional situations, relating to front-line staff and residents as easily as they do to elected officials and key community leaders. The ideal candidate will be able to assess complicated situations, make important decisions, and have tough conversations with stakeholders while remaining logical, respectful and positive.

A Bachelor’s degree is required, master’s degree preferred. Seven (7) years of local government experience with at least five (5) years of experience as a Director and/or Assistant/Deputy City Manager or City Manager. The City will consider the combination of experience and education for candidacy.  Candidates must have a valid Texas Class “C” driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment. Residency is not required but encouraged.

The City of Pearland offers a starting salary range of $170,000- $210,000 based on qualifications and experience.
