**This position is eligible for up to $5,000 hiring incentive**

JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, perform surface finishing on concrete and/or asphalt. Participate in all activities relating to street, alley, and drainage repair and construction. Operate department equipment as needed. Perform other related work as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Perform skilled masonry work on various public works such as curbs, gutters, sidewalks, streets, medians, storm drains, drains, driveways, and walls. Perform finish work on concrete with float or trowel, and on asphalt with an asphalt level lute. Fabricate and prepare concrete forms. Participate in forming concrete structures. Assure quality standards for work are consistently met. Assure finished work conforms to plans, specifications, and special instructions. In the absence of crew leader, supervise (oversee) the work of a crew of one or more employees. Accurately calculate cubic yards of concrete and tons of asphalt when running a crew. Read and understand written job instructions and plans. Write reports by hand. Be familiar with Cityworks to accurately document equipment, labor, material, and other job specific notations to include notes, photographs, or documents. Use good judgment to work safely and use equipment properly. Lift and/or carry up to 100 pounds; pull, push and/or drag up to 150 pounds of repair equipment. Climb, crawl, kneel, squat, stoop, and/or bend freely when performing construction or street repairs. Sit and/or stand for extended periods while performing construction or street repair. Work safely when working around equipment and in traffic, using proper safety precautions. Work in varying temperatures, including extremes of heat, cold, and in temperature swings and inclement weather. Some exposure to dust, fumes, and loud noises routinely encountered in street and alley operations, using proper safety precautions. Drive various types of trucks and operate department equipment. Use hand tools including hand saws, skill saws, chain saws, drill press, vibrator, bolt cutter, pick, axe, air compressor, jackhammer, cutting torch, and various weight hammers. Communicate courteously and effectively with other city employees, officials, and the public. Subject to after hours call out for emergency situations. Work on weekends, through lunch, and/or stay late when needed.

In the temporary absence of the crew leader, may be required to oversee the work of a crew of one or more employees and activities at the work site.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSES:

High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma required. Texas Commercial Drivers License (CDL), Class A, required. Driving record must be satisfactory according to City and Department rules and policies.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:

One year of experience required in pavement and structural construction, including training and experience in surface finishing of concrete and asphalt. One year of experience in the City of Richardson Street or Construction & Rehabilitation Divisions preferred. Must be able to effectively use hand tools including hand saws, skill saws, chain saws, drill press, vibrator, bolt cutter, pick, axe, air compressor, jackhammer, cutting torch, and various weight hammers. Must be able to use good judgment in safe performance of essential functions of job.
