Description | Pearland has been among the top five fastest-growing cities in Texas, and among the top 10 fastest-growing cities in the country, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The growth trajectory will continue, albeit at a slower pace, thanks to an advantageous location adjacent to the country’s fourth-largest city, Houston, a dynamic and diverse economic dynamo on the Gulf Coast, part of the ‘Texas Triangle.’ It’s location, economy, good planning, and leadership makes Pearland a suburban force currently with even more significant upside potential. The Pearland Fire Department (PFD) is an All-Hazards department responsible for fire prevention and inspections, fire investigation, health and code enforcement, fire suppression, and Advanced Life Support (ALS) emergency medical response and transport within its jurisdiction. The goal of the department is to provide for the safety and health of citizens within the City of Pearland, its Extra-Territorial Jurisdiction (ETJ), and two Emergency Service District (ESD) contracts. The department provides 24-hour service and responds to more than 10,000 calls for service per year. The Department serves an area of over 75 square miles with a population of more than 130,000, including the ETJ. The City of Pearland is seeking an Assistant Fire Chief who will contribute to an innovative, progressive, and creative collaborative management styles and the keen ability to communicate, listen, engage, and respond appropriately to the needs and input of others. This position requires an associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Fire Technology or Science, Fire Service Administration, or a closely related field, supplemented by courses in firefighting technology, fire administration, and current and progressive concepts for the delivery of effective, high-quality Emergency Medical Services. A Minimum of 10 or more years of increasingly responsible experience in firefighting and Emergency Medical Services delivery or closely related experience and six or more years of supervisory/managerial experience is required. A bachelor’s degree and graduation from the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer program is preferred, as is graduation from the Texas Fire Chiefs Academy, qualification as a TEEX Fire Service Chief Executive Officer, or designation as a Chief Fire Officer from the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE). The City reserves the right to allow substitutions of suitable experience for education if deemed appropriate. The successful applicants must have, or be able to acquire before appointment, Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Advanced Structure Fire Suppression certification, TCFP Master Structure Fire Suppression, Intermediate Instructor Certifications, and Fire Officer III, or equivalent IFSAC certification. Applicants must be certified as an EMT Basic, EMT Advanced, or Paramedic by the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS), or be able to achieve through reciprocity, within six (6) months of hire. Completion of NIMS ICS 100, 200, 300, and 400 is required before appointment. The selected candidate must possess, or be able to obtain a valid Texas Driver’s License.
