The City of Springfield is actively seeking a Director of Diversity & Inclusion. This position is a new addition to the City’s Leadership Team and will build on existing efforts reflecting the City’s desire and endeavor to build a better workplace that represents the community it serves. This position will be critical in taking the City’s diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives to a new level, including developing and implementing strategies and education programs throughout the organization and building effective relationships in the community. Click here to see flyer with additional details.

Qualifications and Requirements

Experience, Education, and Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with specialization in Public Administration, Human Resources, Sociology, Psychology,  Organizational Development, or a related discipline

AND

  • Five years of progressively responsible professional work experience in the management, design, implementation, assessment, and advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies and workplace culture change; organizational development strategies and initiatives; leadership development and coaching involving teaching, training, and/or delivering learning content to adults regarding workplace diversity, equity and inclusion matters; or some combination of experience.  

PREFERRED

  • Leadership, management and supervisory experience;
  • Experience working collaboratively for a public entity and/or with multiple public and community organizations;
  • Master’s Degree in any of the aforementioned specialization fields is a plus and may be substituted for one year of required work experience.


Licensing/Certification:

  • None required.

 

Functions

Salary:  Dependent on qualifications.

Retirement: The City provides an excellent pension through the Local Government Employee Retirement System (LAGERS). Employees are fully vested after 5 years and the City makes the full contribution for this benefit. Additionally, the City offers a Deferred Compensation 457(b) Plan.

Car Allowance: The City also provides a car allowance for this executive level position at $430/month.

Insurance: Health insurance is provided at no cost for employee-only coverage with an annual deductible of $500 and a maximum out-of-pocket expense of $2,500 per individual. Family coverage is available for purchase. Dental and term life insurance options are also available for purchase.

Leave Time: The City provides a generous leave package, including holiday, vacation, floating holidays, exempt and sick leave.

Residency Requirement: You will be required to establish residency within Springfield City Limits within six months of employment, and for the duration of employment.
