CHIEF OF POLICE

CITY OF BURLINGTON, IOWA

The City of Burlington, Iowa (population 25,663) is seeking candidates for the position of Chief of Police. The current Chief is retiring after serving almost thirty-three (33) years with the department, with the last two and a half (2 ½ ) as Chief. Burlington is the largest community in, and the county seat of Des Moines County. Located in southeast Iowa, the community is beautifully situated on the bluffs of the Mississippi River along the border with Illinois. Burlington is a full-service community with ample dining, retail, recreation, sporting, employment, cultural, and entertainment options. This is an exceptional opportunity for the right person. Education Requirements:

Must have an AA/AS degree or 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university and successful completion of an advanced Police Management School (i.e. FBI National Academy or Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command) or Bachelor’s Degree required.  Master’s Degree preferred.

Experience:

Must have fifteen years in a municipal police agency, including at least 5 years in the rank of lieutenant or above.

Salary and Benefits:

The Chief of Police is an FLSA exempt position

Salary: Negotiable DOQ; current range is $88,137 $114,579

Generous benefit package including: paid vacation, sick leave, personal leave, holidays, Municipal Fire and Police Retirement System of Iowa contributions, and group health and life insurance.

Certification

Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and meet the licensing standards established by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy https://ileatraining.org, within one year. The successful candidate must pass a physical examination, psychological examination, and drug screen.
