Description Under the supervision of the Deputy Building Official, the Chief Plumbing Inspector operates as the team leader, supervising, coordinating and monitoring the workflow of the Plumbing Inspectors. Responsible for performing a variety of inspections of building and properties to ensure compliance with City of Amarillo's Municipal Code, which may includes mechanical, plumbing, construction code requirements, mobile homes, mobile home and travel trailer parks, and enforcement of other nuisances and development regulations as needed. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES - Supervises Plumbing Inspectors, assisting them in fulfilling their duties, and supervising other staff as needed. - Acts as the training officer and mentor for the Plumbing Inspectors. - Monitors the progress of permitted projects for coordination and quality control, document review and inspection services, by making on-site inspections of projects. - Assists in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and procedures for the Department. - Investigates, interprets and issues zoning violation notices as necessary. - May be required to file suits, prepare cases and testify in Court. - Responds to inquiries and provides information to builders, engineers, contractors, architects and the general public concerning submittal requirements, code and permit regulations, in the office, over the phone and in the field. - Reviews construction documents and field inspections for compliance with City Ordinances. - Collaborate with the other inspectors, departments, agencies as required ensuring compliance with codes. - Performs inspections and investigates complaints to ensure compliance to the City of Amarillo Municipal Code. - Provides documentation of inspections, research property and inspection history. - Coordinates the requirements of other Departments, various in-house construction disciplines and clerical procedures to facilitate efficient and effective compliance. - Provides contractor and staff education. - Requires some public-speaking to educate the general public on various requirements and policies of the City. - Conducts annual performance evaluations for employees directly supervised. - Oversees inventory and property management. - Makes recommendations that impact the department budget. - Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Requires a High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of five years of experience with high public contact. Supervisory and management experience preferred. Must obtain the ICC Plumbing, ICC Mechanical Inspector and the ICC International Energy Conservation Code certifications within the first 12 months of employment. Master Plumber License from the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners required. Plumbing Inspector License from the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners must be obtained within the first 6 months of employment. Valid Texas Driver's License required or obtained within 30 days of employment. *The City of Amarillo will consider all relevant education and experience when determining an applicants minimum qualifications and starting salary.
