Salary:  $58,369 - $95,646 Hourly (Dependent on Qualifications)

ATTENDANCE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION ARE AS FOLLOWS: Works non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Overview 

Ensure the day-to-day operations at the transfer station, compost facility and closed landfill are in full regulatory compliance with all local, State and Federal laws, regulations, policies, practices and procedures.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Maintain operational standards for Municipal Solid Waste Facilities
  • Ensure a high level of customer service for the division
  • Manage surface water drainage and oversee Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection and disposal
  • Performing waste classifications
  • Develop Scopes of Work (SOW) and coordinates project work with City staff, consulting engineers, environmental consultants, and/or contractors
  • Develop, prepare and present a wide variety of periodic and special reports, presentations, and recommendations to business/industry/environmental groups and associations, contractors, waste haulers, and the general public on any aspect of the transfer station, compost facility and landfill operations, including regulatory matters, environmental concerns and project plans/changes
  • Coordinate key purchases and payments for projects with Finance Department
  • Ensure site personnel and stakeholders are following the Site Operating Plan (SOP)
  • Apply best management practices to site maintenance and correct any deficiencies
  • Recommend necessary changes and improvements to the division’s operations and facilities
  • Perform personnel duties such as assigning job duties to employees, processing payroll, evaluating employee performance and monitoring overtime
  • Provide public outreach services to educate and inform the public of self-disposal requirements; e.g. trap coverage, fees, hazardous waste, tires, etc.
  • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

 

Certifications, Licenses or Other requirements 

  • TCEQ Class A Municipal Solid Waste license is preferred
  • If no license at the time of hire, must obtain a provisional license within 6 months of hire and must obtain full license within 1 year of hire

Qualifications 

  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS)
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience and two (2) years supervisory experience required
  • Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas Class B driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating 

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.

  • Selected applicants must be able to pass a background investigation and a pre-employment drug test.
  • Any position that lists a minimum qualification for education level and/or license/certification will require the applicant to provide proof of documentation if selected for hire into the position with the City of Corpus Christi.
