Description | Firefighter applicants must complete a firefighter application and personal history statement. The application for the firefighter position is below. Serves as an all-hazard responder, responsible for protecting life and property by performing fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical services (EMS), hazardous materials incident mitigation, fire prevention, inspections, and public education. Maintains equipment, apparatus, fire station facilities, and performs other duties as required. Works as a member of a team to ensure the overall goals and objectives of the Fire Department are met. High school diploma/GED and 60 hours of college or two years verifiable work experience required. Previous public safety experience and a degree in a related field preferred. The applicant must: Be twenty one (21) years of age or older at the time of testing. Have earned sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited college-level institution or possess two (2) years of full-time work experience. Possess a valid Texas Driver’s License - Class B; or obtain said license within three (3) months. Maintain an exemplary driving record and clean criminal history. Possess certifications from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) in Basic Fire Suppression, to include FFI, FFII, Hazardous Materials Awareness, and Operations, or provide documentation from the TCFP of a seventy (70) percent or higher score in each of the above areas, and/or provide IFSAC seals for the same. Possess a Texas Department of State Health Services – EMT or more advanced certification, or provide documentation demonstrating a seventy (70) percent or higher score on the National Registry EMT exam indicating eligibility for certification. Have or obtain a TCFP- Driver/Operator-Pumper Certification within one (1) year of the date of hire. Within one year of the date of hire, members must reside within thirty (30) minutes of the City Limits of Nacogdoches. Complete annual continuing education requirements to maintain certifications. (Req#2020-0117) City paid health and life insurance is provided for employee; the City requires 7% TMRS contribution by employees with a 2-1 city match; and other voluntary benefit plans are available. Probationary Firefighters earn a starting salary of approximately $45,300yr to $45,700yr, with a salary increase to approximately $49,100yr for the first full-year of non-probationary service. *This is an hourly paid position.
