Description | Wastewater Collection Crewleader – Water Utilities
Department: Public Works Division: Water Utilities Job Type: Full Time FLSA Status: Non-exempt Salary/Pay Rate: $17.58 - $23.04 per hour Job Number: 69-20-24 Position Summary Provides work guidance and field supervision to water and wastewater utilities maintenance crew in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of the water utility infrastructure. Preforms standby duty for emergency repairs on weekends, holidays and nights as assigned every 6th week. Essential Job Functions 1. COORDINATES the work activities of the assigned crew in a safe and timely manner. 2. TRAINS maintenance workers and MONITORS job progress. 3. OPERATES all equipment necessary to maintain the water utilities systems, with emphasis on the wastewater collection system. 4. OPERATES and services equipment such as Vactor trucks, backhoes, dump trucks, skid loader and television inspection devices and other equipment used in repair and maintenance of sewers. 5. MAINTAINS daily logs on all work performed and submits accurate work orders to the Supervisor. 6. Physically LOADS and UNLOADS generators, compressors, pumps, and other related equipment from flat bed truck to ground (load = 100 lbs.), MOVES manhole cover to access and enter manhole (load = 118 lbs.), OPERATES T-wrench in a push/pull fashion, DISPERSES sewer cleaning equipment hoses, and HANDLES equipment accessories. 7. PERFORMS irrigation system repairs and landscapes job sites after infrastructure repairs are made. 8. ASSISTS water production and distribution areas, as assigned. 9. MAINTAINS public relations. ADHERES to Hurst’s Code of Ideals. 10. PERFORMS housekeeping and other related duties, as assigned 11. ARRIVES at work on time and works assigned schedule. IS available for overtime, as needed. PERFORMS standby duty on nights, weekends and holidays as assigned. 12. PERFORMS other related duties as assigned. 13. PERFORMS Manager related duties in the absence of the Wastewater Manager. 14. CLEAN the wastewater collection system on a monthly and yearly schedule. 15. INSPECTS new and existing developments to update utility maps. 16. PERFORMS field surveys, evaluations: and other specific field related duties required by wastewater engineering divisions.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities 1. Skilled in the safe operation of all equipment and tools used in the maintenance of water and wastewater utilities systems. 2. Knowledge of water utility chemicals such as chlorine and ammonia to include the application of safety practices required by various governing agencies. 3. Ability to understand and enforce required rules and regulations applicable to the water and wastewater utilities industry. 4. Ability to work and communicate effectively orally and in writing with City personnel and the public. 5. Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction. 6. Ability to read, follow and enforce City Policy and Procedures. 7. Ability to perform strenuous physical activity, including walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, reaching, moving, lifting, and twisting, for extended periods of time under adverse conditions including extreme cold, heat, moisture, dust, and fumes, at various heights, and in confined spaces to complete job assignments. 8. Ability to maintain accurate records with attention to detail. 9. Knowledge of intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and GroupWise. 10. Knowledge of OSHA Regulations and other safety procedures required by various governing agencies. 11. Ability to understand and enforce required rules and regulations applicable to the water utilities industry. 12. Ability to perform strenuous work including walking, standing sitting, bending, stooping pushing, pulling, reaching, moving, lifting and twisting, for extended periods of time under adverse conditions including extreme cold, heat, moisture, dust and fumes, at various heights, and in confined spaces to complete job assignments.
Minimum Education, Certification, and Experience Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required and two to five years related experience with a valid State of Texas Commercial Class A CDL driver's license with Tanker Endorsement with a good driving record required. Must possess a Texas Commission Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Wastewater Collection II Certificate of Competency or “HAVE THE ABILITY to OBTAIN THE LICENSE WITHIN 6 MONTHS”. |
