Description

Responsible for the installation, maintenance, trouble shooting and repair of all electrical and mechanical equipment and appurtenances at all Public Utilities facilities. Must be fully proficient in the duties of a Skilled Trades Worker 1 and demonstrate the ability to construct and repair electrical panels, fabricate mechanical repairs, and have basic knowledge of instrumentation, telemetry, communication systems and computers.

Job Description:

  • Install, replace, repair and modify mechanical and electrical equipment located on and within Public Utilities facilities, including, but not limited to, pump valves, regulators, actuators, control panels, communication systems, motor controls, electronic filtering and switching system. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and county safety requirements, including lock-out/tag-out and confined space entry as well as general industry safety rules.
  • Document and maintain work order and safety records in written and in electronic format. Respond to emergency situations as needed.
  • Perform lift station maintenance that may include mowing, trimming of shrubbery, weed eating, pressure washing, fence repair and painting. Maintain assigned equipment and vehicles.

Work Hours:  Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.  On-Call Required.

 

 

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:  A High School Diploma or its equivalent and three (3) years of experience in applicable trades which include work in the water/wastewater collection field, performing pump, valve or hydraulic system repair and maintenance. Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License at time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:  Valid Class “C” wastewater collection system certification. Ability to obtain Class “B” wastewater collection system certification. Ability to obtain Class “A” CDL with air brake endorsement.

Job Competencies:  Knowledge of state-of-the art technology in mechanical equipment, maintenance and test equipment, equipment troubleshooting and repair of hydraulic controls and pumps, building construction trades, methods, codes, practices, tools and equipment. Ability to read and follow color codes, diagrams, schematics, blueprints, plans and written instructions and work under limited supervision. Course in pump or motor repair, control panel repair, hydraulics, fluid mechanics, welding, communications and / or telemetry. Proficient in the operation of electric multi-meter, voltmeter, and megohmmeter. Proficient in the operation of a 1.5-ton crane truck.

Physical Demands:  Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

 

Subject to Passing Substance Screening:  This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening.  An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.

 

Pay: $18.30 (Step 1)
