Description | Bullard, Texas, is a picturesque city with a small-town feel that is far removed from urban sprawl. Just 15 minutes from Tyler, Bullard is located in the southwestern part of Smith County and the northeastern part of Cherokee County. It is easily accessible via US 69, FM 2493, and FM 344. Covering 3.36 square miles, the city’s friendly charm, green spaces, and comfortable pace belie the fact that Bullard, with an estimated population of about 4,000, is one of the fastest growing cities in the state of Texas. The City of Bullard seeks an engaging, visionary Police Chief to lead the Police Department with integrity and passion. The Chief must be community-oriented to address citizen concerns professionally and effectively by building trust and legitimacy, committed to treating citizens with dignity and respect, and dedicated to giving all citizens a voice and to promoting fairness and transparency. The successful candidate must be willing to live within 20 minutes of Bullard. The ideal candidate will maintain an up-to-date, comprehensive knowledge of changes in laws, policies, and procedures to stay informed about new methods, trends, and developments in law enforcement. He or she will demonstrate integrity and commitment to innovation and efficiency, and must be fiscally responsible. Experience developing and implementing new technology related to camera/video footage retention and records management systems is preferred. The selected candidate must hold an associate’s degree in management, criminal justice, or a related field from an accredited college or university. A bachelor’s degree is preferred. A minimum of 10 years of experience in police supervision, with five years at a senior command position (police chief or within one or two levels of the chief’s position in an organization), is required.
