This is work for operation of heavy, intermediate and complex construction equipment, participating in and assisting with utility work for operations, maintenance, repair, installation and construction of the potable and reclaimed water distribution, wastewater; gravity, vacuum and pressurized sewer collection systems.

Job Description:

Equipment Operation

  • Operates heavy and intermediate construction equipment, such as excavators, backhoes, end loaders, skid steers, trenchers, tapping machines, boring machines and other related equipment required to install, maintain and repair utility system mains, services and their appurtenances, including tapping of water and wastewater mains and installing new water and wastewater services.
  • Operates complex and specialized construction equipment, such as horizontal directional drill/boring, vacuum trucks, sewer-flushing devices, rodding equipment, jetting equipment, television evaluation equipment, flow meters and other related equipment used in distribution and wastewater collection system maintenance, including relief of wastewater sewer stoppages/backups, cleaning of lines, maintenance of structures/manholes, and investigation of inflow and infiltration.

Utility Operations

  • Performing complete utility work maintenance, repair, installation, construction, flushing, flow testing, and disinfection to the utility’s potable and reclaimed water distribution systems, wastewater; gravity, vacuum and pressurized sewer collection systems, their appurtenances and all public service laterals.
  • Perform complete underground utility inspection/discovery and locates as pertains to the operations, maintenance, repair, installation and construction of the potable and reclaimed water distribution, wastewater; gravity, vacuum and pressurized sewer collection systems, their appurtenances and all public service laterals, air release valves, backflow prevention devices, meters, boxes and related appurtenances, including flow testing of water meters and certification of backflow prevention devices.
  • Performs right-of-way MOT and all restorations relating to complete utility maintenance and repairs.

General Duties

  • Responds and communicates to customer’s complaints relating to the water and sewer utility systems, including water and meter leaks, water quality concerns, sewer stoppages/backups and odors.
  • Maintains equipment and vehicles as assigned.
  • Completes; service requests and work orders, with electronic equipment, software and communication technologies relating to all work performed in a professional and timely fashion.
  • Performing complete underground utility inspection/discovery and locates as pertains to the operations, maintenance, repair, installation and construction of the potable and reclaimed water distribution, wastewater; gravity, vacuum and pressurized sewer collection systems, their appurtenances and all public service laterals. In addition, keeping records, ensuring compliance with direction from the Crew Leader or Lead Worker and Immediate Supervisor or Manager performed in a professional and timely fashion.
  • Responds to emergencies as required.

 

Work Hours:  40 Hours Per Week - 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. 

 

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:  Two (2) years of experience with operating heavy, intermediate and complex construction equipment in the operations, maintenance, repair, installation and construction of the potable and reclaimed water distribution, wastewater; gravity, vacuum and pressurized sewer collection systems or related experience.  Possession of a State of Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class "A" with Tanker "N" endorsement and maintain.

Preferred Qualifications:  Florida Department Environmental Protection (FDEP): Water Distribution System-Level 4, Drinking Water Treatment-Class D and or Wastewater Treatment-Class D Certification(s). NASSCO-PACP, MACP & LACP Certification(s). While not required, we prefer that if hired employee obtains within two (2) years date of hire. one (1) year of Wastewater Collection System Cleaning, Televising and Maintenance.

Job Competencies:  Knowledge of current technology in water distribution, wastewater collections, and storm water conveyance systems maintenance practices. Knowledge and safe operation of specialized tools and equipment used in potable, reuse, wastewater, and storm water conveyance systems maintenance and repair. Operation of backhoe, excavators, trencher, personal computers and mechanical tools used in utilities and the storm water maintenance industry. The ability to understand and follow oral/written instructions. Experience in the use of TV inspection, smoke testing and collection system flow monitoring equipment. Smartphone and basic computer skills with web app GIS, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Maximo software program.

**Certifications for Safety Training: Asbestos Cement Piping (Class-II), Blood Borne Pathogens, Chainsaw Safety, Competent Person-OSHA Standard, Confined Space Entry, Fire Extinguisher, Forklift Safety, Hazcom, Hearing Protection, Heavy Equipment Safety, Lock-out/Tag-out, Maintenance of Traffic-Intermediate, Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), Maximo Basics, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Trenching and Excavation Safety-OSHA Standard, Water Distribution Systems, Wastewater Collection System Cleaning & Maintenance, Wastewater Spill Sample Collection and Workplace Violence.

Physical Demands: Must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. 

 

Subject to Passing Substance Screening:  This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening.  An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
