UMMARY:

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE JOB DESCRIPTION.  IMPORTANT INFORMATION CONTAINED WITHIN THIS JOB POSTING.

The City of Lubbock will begin accepting applications for Probationary Police Officer positions Saturday, November 16 2019 through Friday, February 28, 2020. The Probationary Police Officer Entrance Exam will be given on Saturday, February 29, 2020, at the Lubbock Police Academy, 508 Davis Dr. in Reese Center.

All applications for this exam must be completed online and received by the City of Lubbock Human Resources Department by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2020.  Interested candidates must apply online.

NOTE: SECTIONS MARKED IN RED WILL NOT NEED TO BE COMPLETED WHICH WILL INCLUDE: WORK HISTORY, CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES, SKILLS, AND REFERENCES.

All applicants who wish to receive Honorable Discharge Credit for service in the armed forces of the United States shall provide proof of an "Honorable Discharge" (i.e., DD Form 214 Service 2, DD Form 214 Member 4, or DD Form 214 Service 7). Any discharge, by whatever name known, that includes any language other than "Honorable Discharge" is not acceptable for Honorable Discharge Credit. This proof must be provided by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2020. You may either attach proof to your application online; e-mail it to Rachel Dominguez at: rdomiguez@mylubbock.us fax it to the attention of Rachel Dominguez at (806) 775-3316; mail it to City of Lubbock, HR Department – Attn: Rachel Dominguez, P.O. Do not attach any other forms or documentation to the application except the DD-214 form.

The Probationary Police Officer Entrance Exam will be given on Saturday, February 29, 2020, at the Lubbock Police Academy, 508 Davis Dr. in Reese Center. at 9:00 a.m.  All applicants should plan to arrive at the testing location by 8:30 a.m.

A VALID EMAIL ADDRESS IS REQUIRED.  ALL CORRESPONDENCE WILL BE VIA EMAIL.

Applicants must be at least 20 years and 6 months of age and have not reached their 45th birthday prior to the start of the Lubbock Police Entrance Exam.  IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS BEFORE February 29, 1975, OR AFTER August 29, 1999, YOU ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR HIRE.

Applicants must pass the Probationary Police Officer Entrance Exam before taking the Physical Ability Test. The Physical Ability Test will be held on February 29, 2020, after the entrance examination.

The eligibility list created as a result of this examination will be effective from February 16, 2019 through August 29, 2020 unless exhausted before that date.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PHYSICAL ABILITY TEST
Run and Restrain Candidate Instructions
1. The purpose of the test is to evaluate the ability to pursue, restrain, and handcuff a suspect. The test involves running to pursue the suspect and subduing and handcuffing a suspect.
2. Sit in the chair.
3. On the command "Go", run through the marked course.
4. Duck under the 4' obstacle and keep running.
5. Make a right turn around cones #1, #2, #3, and #4.
6. Run to the 1' high obstacles. Step over both obstacles and keep running.
7. Make a right turn around cones #5 and #6.
8. Run to the sled.
7. Use the handles to push the sled 5 feet until the front of the sled crosses the line.
8. When the sled push is completed, run to the stairs.
9. Go up and down the stairs one (1) time. Do not skip any steps. Then run to the far cone (cone #2), make a u-turn around the cone, and run back to the stairs.
10. Go up and down the stairs one (1) time. Then run to the far cone (cone #6), make a u-turn around the cone, and run back to the stairs.
11. Go up and down the stairs one (1) time. Then run to the far cone (cone #2), make a right turn around cone #2 and #3 and run to the pull sled.
12. Use the handles to pull the sled 5 feet until the front of the sled crosses the line.
13. When the sled pull is completed, run to the arrest simulator.
14. If you are right-handed, go to the left side of the simulator. If you are left-handed, go to the right side. You want your dominant hand pulling the ring attached to the incline.
15. Kneel on the mat in front of the pedestal. Grasp the handle on the incline side and pull the ring over the pole. Then grasp the handle on the other side (flat side) and pull the ring over the pole. You can use both hands to pull the handles, but do not touch the incline or pole.
16. Once the arrest simulator is completed, stand up and run across the finish line.
17. Your score is the time to complete the test. Attempt to complete the test as quickly as possible.
18. I will provide commands about where to run and what events to complete, so listen to my commands.
19. Do not miss turns, knock over or move the obstacles, or touch the incline or pedestal on the arrest simulator. These are errors.
20. If you commit an error, the test will be stopped. You will be given a two (2) minute rest and one retest.
21. Do not skip steps when ascending or descending the stairs. If you skip steps, I will give you a warning. If you skip steps a second time I will stop the test. You will be given a two (2) minute rest and one retest.
Arm Endurance Candidate Instructions
1. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the muscular endurance in your arms.
2. You will kneel on the floor with your chest close to the edge of the table. In order to make sure you are at a comfortable distance from the Arm Ergometer, adjust your kneeling position to one in which your arm is completely straight when the handle is the furthest distance from you.
3. I will then adjust the handles so they are in line with your shoulders.
4. On the command, "Go", you will pedal continuously for one (1) minute, and attempt to complete as many revolutions as you can in that time by turning the handles as fast as you can for two minutes.
5. I will tell you when there are 30 and 15 seconds remaining.
6. During the test, I may have to reach under your arms to make an adjustment, do not stop pedaling.
7. After one (1) minute, I will tell you to stop.
8. The command to start will be, "Ready, GO".
9. Your score will be the number of revolutions you complete in 1 minute. Attempt to complete AS MANY REVOLUTIONS AS YOU CAN during the 1-minute test.
10. Do you have any questions?
11. Kneel on the floor with your chest close to the edge of the table.
12. Place your hands on the handles so that you can pedal comfortably.
13. I will now check and adjust the height of the pedals.
14. To get a feel for the machine, pedal the machine forward for 10 revolutions.
15. I will now place the handles in the starting position.
1.5 Mile Run Candidate Instructions
1. The purpose of this test is to evaluate your cardiovascular endurance.
2. You will stand on the start/finish line. On the command "GO", begin running.
3. Continue running until you complete 1.5 miles.
4. Your score is the time to complete the 1.5 mile run. Therefore, run as quickly as you can.
5. You may walk or stop during the run, but the timer will not be stopped.
6. Do not leave the running course. If you leave the course before completing you will not be allowed back on the course.
7. The command will be "Ready, go."
