Johnson County is the second largest county in the state of Kansas and has a population of nearly 600,000. For more than 60 years the Johnson County Park and Recreation District (JCPRD) has been enchanting the lives of the citizens of Johnson County through its parks, quality programs, professionalism, and response to developing trends. JCPRD is governed by an eight-member policy making board whose volunteer members are appointed by the Johnson County Board of County Commissioners. Internally, the agency is organized into five divisions: Parks & Golf Courses, Recreation, Culture, Safety & Outdoor Education, and Administrative Services.

JCPRD is seeking a proven leader who enjoys working in a fast-paced, high profile, and progressive environment and is committed to enhancing our overall efficiencies and effectiveness to serve as its Deputy Director. The ideal candidate should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong mathematical and budgeting skills, knowledge of marketing and fee strategies, and leadership and supervisory skills including teambuilding, motivation, delegation of duties, strategic planning, goal setting, and complex decision-making skills. The Deputy Director should also be adept at public presentations and report preparation.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation, Public Administration, Business, or a related field
  • 10 years of progressively responsible high-level management or executive management in parks and recreation or related field
  • 10 years of administrative and supervisory experience, with experience within the public sector
  • 5 years of project management experience

Preferred:

  • A Master’s degree in an applicable field of study
  • Experience within the public sector
  • NRPA Certified Park and Recreation Professional or Certified Park and Recreation Executive

The hiring range for the incoming JCPRD Deputy Director is $108,472 to $135,574 DOQE.
