Description

SUMMARY: 

Under specified supervision of a Public Works Foreman, performs routine, semi-skilled and skilled work in the construction, maintenance and repair of potable, non-potable and gravity flow irrigation systems, water distribution systems, streets maintenance, traffic control devices and storm drainage.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Performs  various combinations of the following:  Street maintenance and repair; breaks and removes pavement; digs, shovels, hauls and loads soils, sand, gravel, and cement; patches streets including, placing, raking and compacting hot asphalt; performs traffic control; including maintenance of traffic control devices and street signage, flagging and directing traffic at work sites and controlling related safety functions at job sites; interprets basic street maps and blueprints; measures and lays out center lines, crosswalks and other line markings;  operates a paint striper or spray gun in painting line markings on pavement; paints curbs; performs water pipeline maintenance; assists in the installation, repair and replacement of service and main lines; repairs, replacement and exercising of water valves and fire hydrants; reads water meters and records consumption; identifies addresses for new meters; identifies and addresses water meter equipment problems; activates and deactivates meters; inventories meter equipment; performs meter maintenance; performs meter and radio installations and change-outs and shut-offs as required; performs general maintenance to include rough carpentry, pipefitting, installation and repair of fence and guardrails, painting, plumbing and basic electrical work; performs specialized corrective and preventative maintenance and inspection on stormwater infrastructure including ponds, channels, outfalls, culverts and storm sewer collection systems; conducts closed circuit television (CCTV) routine and response driven inspection and maintenance of storm sewer manholes, inlets and lines; operates vehicles used in construction and maintenance such as mowers, tractors, pick-ups dump trucks with plows, snow plows, street sweepers, backhoes, jet/vac trucks, front-end loaders and skid steer, enters confined spaces utilizing proper personal protective equipment, related safety equipment and entry permits and performs other duties as assigned
