Ideal Candidate
The City of Victoria seeks a strong leader who can establish and maintain effective working relationships to serve as its new Director of Public Works & Engineering Services. The ideal candidate will be compassionate, diplomatic, and tactful when working with employees, citizens, contractors, and consultants and able to work collaboratively with other departments. Strong technical skills, up-to-date knowledge of best practices in the field, and the ability to think strategically to establish short and long-range plans are essential.

The next Director of Public Works & Engineering Services must have extensive knowledge of supervisory principles and practices. The successful candidate will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey information to staff at all levels of the organization. The Director of Public Works & Engineering Services will have a strong customer service focus, excellent project management skills, and the ability to make sound, evidence-based judgement calls. The selected individual must have expertise in capital improvement projects, including budgeting, contractor relationships, and overall project management.

Education & Experience
The selected candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in business, management, engineering or a related field and have seven years of progressively responsible experience (including managerial) in several of the functional areas of public works with focus on Street and Drainage divisions required; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills will be considered. Possession of a Class “A” Water and Class “A” Wastewater Operator’s License preferred. Possession of an Engineering License preferred. Valid Texas driver’s license with driving record that meets City guidelines.
