Under general supervision of the Parks Operations Supervisor, the Parks Crew Leader is responsible for leading, monitoring and participating in the maintenance of City parks, athletic fields, park buildings, facilities, equipment, and other City properties; managing and monitoring the day to day activities of an assigned work crew; and for performing maintenance and repair duties, which includes but not limited to, the safe and efficient operation of light and heavy construction equipment used in parks and drainage maintenance activities.

 

 Principal Duties:
  1. Provide day-to-day supervision and participate in the work of assigned grounds crew and seasonal employees engaged in maintenance-related work activities of City parks, properties and grounds, including but not limited to, ensuring the safe, timely and accurate completion of work assignments, assisting with hiring and evaluating employee performance, and overseeing day-to-day field activities.
  2. Inspect playgrounds, vehicles, and equipment on a routine basis to ensure properly maintained; and perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs as required.
  3. Operate a variety of equipment used in the maintenance of parks grounds and landscaping, to include but not limited to, tractors, front-end loaders, implements, and various power and hand tools
  4. Lead and participate in the maintenance of athletic fields, grounds and City infrastructures; ensure work procedures are followed safely and efficiently, and work is completed properly.
  5. Perform all aspects of parks maintenance/general grounds maintenance activities, including basic horticulture-related maintenance such as flower, trees, and shrub care.
  6. Assist in preparing for special events and recreational programs.
  7. Provide oversight and assistance with the application of fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides.
  8. Input work order information into computerized work order system.
  9. Conduct on-the-job safety instruction and training to personnel regarding the safe operation of heavy equipment.  Demonstrate proper, safe and efficient work methods.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned, including serving as Supervisor in the absence of the Parks Operations Supervisor.

 

 Qualifications:

Required:   
High School Diploma or G.E.D., two (2) years additional technical training in a field related to area of assignment, and two (2) years of experience related to area of assignment; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid State of Texas Driver's License. Knowledge and experience in general plumbing, irrigation, electrical repairs, and welding. Available for on-call and/or emergency response and ability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required. Possess a Non-commercial Applicator License issued by the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) or the Structural Pest Control Board, or the ability to obtain within (12) months from hire date. Ability to perform strenuous tasks in a variety of weather conditions and extreme temperatures.

Preferred:    
One (1) year supervisory or lead experience.
