Description | SALARY: $95,000 to $115,000 DOQ JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for the administration, management, and operational guidance for public works in the City of Forney. MAJOR DUTIES:
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The City Engineer assigns work in terms of department goals and objectives. The supervisor reviews work through conferences, reports, and observation of department activities. GUIDELINES: Guidelines include Supervisor instruction, city policies and procedures, city engineering design standards, State and Federal Laws, EPA regulations, and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality standards. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application. This position develops departmental guidelines. COMPLEXITY: The work consists of varied administrative, supervisory, and management duties. The variety of tasks to be managed contributes to the complexity of the work. SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to supervise the operations of the Public Works Department. Successful performance helps ensure the effective and efficient operation of the department and affects the quality of life for city residents and visitors. PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with co‑workers', vendors, suppliers, other city employees, elected and appointed officials, engineers, surveyors, consultants, developers, architects, and the general public. PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to exchange information, motivate persons, negotiate matters, resolve problems, and provide services. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and objects, climbs ladders, distinguishes between shades of color, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and utilizes the sense of smell. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc. SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: This position has direct supervision over Water Foreman (1), Wastewater Foreman (1), Street Foreman (1), and Executive Assistant (1).
