POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Stationary Engineer is responsible for operation and maintenance of stationary boilers, air compressors, generators, and refrigeration equipment at the Central Plant facility.
 
Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operates and maintains mechanical equipment
  • Visually inspects equipment at intervals to maintain operation
  • Detects malfunctions and repairs equipment as needed
  • Reads wiring schematics and troubleshooting controls
  • Performs water samples and adding chemicals as needed
  • Changes filters and belts
  • Greases motors and pump bearings, unstopping drain lines
  • Repairs electrical, receptacles, switches, lights and ballasts
  • Drives personal or county vehicle to various work sites as needed
  • Assists and trains less experienced coworkers
  • Performs other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
  • 2nd grade, or higher, Stationary Engineer License
  • Type II EPA Certification
  • A minimum of five (5) years' hands-on experience in various aspects of building engineering operations, repairs, and maintenance of commercial and/or industrial facilities
  • A valid driver's license (Texas upon hire)


Additional Requirements

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions in a thorough, neat, and timely manner
  • Skilled in the care and use of hand tools and power equipment used in maintenance engineering trades and display mechanical aptitude
  • Working knowledge of various types of commercial air conditioning, heating, plumbing equipment, and electrical controls
  • Ability to maintain a courteous, helpful behavior at all times
  • Self-starter possessing the interpersonal skills required to be a productive team player
  • May be required to obtain a license in assigned area


Physical & Environmental Requirements
May work outside in all kinds of weather; may work with no air conditioning or heating, will work on ladders and scaffolding; duties require standing, sitting, stretching, bending, stooping, climbing, frequent lifting a minimum of 50 lbs. of equipment, supplies, and tools and must have the ability to safely install rigging/lifting devices for heavier items. Will work in cramped and awkward positions with all types of mechanical tools, electric and other equipment, and may be exposed to dust, dirt, paint fumes, etc.

  • Convictions, probation, or deferred adjudication for a Class B Misdemeanor, if within the previous 10 years
  • Open arrest for any criminal offense (Felony or Misdemeanor)
  • Family Violence conviction

PREFERENCES:
  • Universal EPA Certification
  • Two (2) years of related technical school
