Salary:  $64,352 - $105,449 Annually (Dependent on Qualifications)

ATTENDANCE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION ARE AS FOLLOWS: Non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Overview

The IT Security Specialist III is responsible for the research, development, implementation, testing and review of the organization’s information security to protect information and prevent unauthorized access. The Security Specialist will keep city employees informed about security measures, explain potential threats, install software, implement security measures and proactively monitor networks. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Identify risk factors and propose solutions regarding data loss, fraud prevention, security architecture, identity and access management and investigation and forensics.
  • Plan and test responses to security breaches. Test, deploy and maintain security hardware and software products.
  • Protect system by defining access privileges, control structures, and resources.
  • Serve as security expert and conduct trainings as needed.
  • Implement security improvements by assessing current situation, evaluating trends and anticipating requirements.
  • Monitor network activity to identify vulnerable points and to communicate them to IT teams.
  • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications 

  • Requires an Associate’s Degree
  • Minimum of five (5) years of related experience
  • A combination of education and pertinent experience may be considered
  • Must be able to pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) background check
  • A valid driver's license is required. Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire.

Basis of Rating 

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.

  • Selected applicants must be able to pass a background investigation and a pre-employment drug test.
  • Any position that lists a minimum qualification for education level and/or license/certification will require the applicant to provide proof of documentation if selected for hire into the position with the City of Corpus Christi.
