Adrian, MI (pop. 21,133)—Adrian is a full-service community that is seeking a public finance professional to lead the Finance Department. Adrian is a city of arts, parks, and culture and is the home of three colleges – Adrian College, Siena Heights University, and Jackson College. Adrian is proud of its historic downtown featuring shops, restaurants, and events. It is the Lenawee County Seat and is located in close proximity to three major metropolitan areas – Toledo, Ann Arbor, and Detroit. Downtown Adrian boasts a growing number of upper floor apartment redevelopments with popular shops/events surrounded by beautiful neighborhoods with stately homes and excellent schools. Many new residents note that Adrian is an all-around great place for families to live and children to grow up with an emphasis on education and thriving culture.

The Finance Director is responsible for oversight and management of City’s accounting, purchasing, payroll, tax billing/collection, and funds investment for a $32.6 million budget, which includes general fund and utilities. The Finance Director manages the annual budgeting process and implementation, the annual capital budgeting process and is the liaison for an annual audit. The City participates in the Government Finance Officers Association’s Comprehensive Annual Report Program.

Adrian has a general fund balance of 39.2%. Adrian is the beneficiary of Fee Estate funds that spin off a percentage each year for parks and beautification. Adrian earns the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) annually.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field;
  • Five years’ experience; and
  • Ability to effectively communicate financial information and projections to commission members, city administration and the public. Candidates who have extra experience in financing economic development and redevelopment projects is a plus.
