Under the supervision of the Environmental Compliance & Recycling Manager, the Public Works Programs & Events Assistant assists in the planning and implementation of Public Works programs, events, special projects, and in the coordination of recycling collection services for City buildings and residents.  Flexible schedule for an average of 19 hours per week, not to exceed 1,000 hours per fiscal year

 

 Principal Duties:
  1. Responsible for planning, coordinating, organizing, promoting and monitoring of the activities related to Adopt-A-Street program activities; to include but not limited to, corresponding with City departments and divisions, volunteer groups, and organizations; and ensuring appropriate inventory of equipment and materials are available for the successful operations of assigned event. 
  2. Perform recycling and collection service activities, to include, maintaining a daily collection and/or service report, collecting recyclables from City buildings, ensuring proper operation of assigned vehicle by performing regular inspections and reporting deficiencies or damage, and fulfilling daily work assignments, to include contacting customers per request to resolve issues. 
  3. Assist with the planning and implementation of environmental events such as Brazos Valley Earth Day, Household Hazardous Waste Collection, Texas Recycles Day and other related programs and events. 
  4. Provide coordination assistance to Public Works Divisions for special and established programs and events as needed. 
  5. Under the guidance and direction of supervisor, perform scheduled environmental inspections of Public Works Facilities. 
  6. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 Qualifications:
Required:        
High school diploma or GED equivalent. Valid Texas Driver's License. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Possess basic level computer skills in the use of Microsoft Word and data entry. Available to work weekends and evenings. Ability to work with general direction and with minimal supervision. Ability to work in a non-office environment, including field operations.
