Irving Public Library is seeking an innovative, creative and engaging customer service oriented professional librarian to assist with teen / young adult programming. Duties include development of a full range of library services, programs and activities for teens / young adults; and overseeing the work of assigned staff. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, organized, and enjoy working with teens / young adults; and capable of developing and conducting original, vibrant programming for teens / young adults that encourages reading, creative thinking, and promotes the use of the library and its materials. The person hired will work in all areas of the library including regularly staffing the information and circulation desks. Irving Public Library's mission is to provide access to information for lifelong learning and promote the enjoyment of reading. This person will also participate with other staff in organizing the library’s annual North Texas Teen Book Festival.  With more than one million items checked out annually, the multi-branch Irving Public Library system serves a community of more than 237,000 residents that is home to one of the most diverse ZIP codes in the nation. Possession of a Master of Library Science degree from an American Library Association accredited program, or a related field of study, or an equivalent qualification, such as a bachelor’s degree in a related field of study, one year of graduate-level course work and one year of additional job related experience. Applicants also should have strong knowledge and appreciation of young adult literature. Bilingual (English / Spanish) skills are beneficial. Schedule includes weekend and evening hours.
