Description

Road and Bridge Engineer (Official Job Title: Engineer Professional, Senior) (pending vacancy):  This is professional engineering responsible for Traffic Engineering projects, Pavement management, Roadway resurfacing projects, the County’s Bridge Asset Management Program (BAMP), Sidewalks, American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance and other technical projects as assigned.

Bridge Asset Management Program (BAMP)

  • Receive and review bridge inspection reports.
  • Maintain bridge inventory and manage the Bridge Asset Management Software: update data, maintain GIS layers, add new bridges, etc. 
  • Prepares reports for maintenance needs and works with in-house or contractors for bridge repairs.
  • Prioritizes bridge replacement and rehabilitation projects.
  • Do non-qualified bridge inspections.
  • Reviews bridge plans for compliance with FDOT, AASHTO,  FHWA, and NBIS standards.
  • Produces bridge reports to management as needed.

Transportation

  • Interacts with the public and BCC to address complaints, concerns and questions as needed. Leads and Manages the review of construction plans of projects impacting traffic operations or traffic control devices referred by Land Development Services and Capital Projects.
  • Leads and Manages the preparation and reporting of miscellaneous inquiries and traffic studies (Sight Distance Investigations).
  • Prepare and make presentations to the  BCC.
  • Perform reviews of mast arm inspection reports and recommend repairs/options.

Pavement Management Program

  • Assists engineer in building Optimization and Performance Model for pavement management.
  • Researches resurfacing related issues.

Other analysis and data collection for rights-of-way as requested.

Other Functions

  • American with Disabilities Act (ADA) Design Reviews.
  • Investigates customer concerns/inquiries; meets with citizens to define and resolve issues.
  • Trains, works with, and supervises interns.

Minimum Qualifications:   A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or related technical field.  Three (3) years post-P.E. related project experience .  A Master’s Degree is preferred and may substitute for one year of required experience.  Must be a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Florida.

Preferred Qualifications:  Experience in pavement management, road inspection, and traffic management. Advanced Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) certification.  Knowledge of bridge structures and certification in the Federal Highway Administration Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges.  Knowledge of Asset management software.

Job Competencies:

  • Microsoft Office Suite; MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and Outlook

  • Familiarity with Cartegraph is desired
