JOB SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Recreation Manager, communicates, leads, develops, organizes, coordinates and evaluates all aspects of programs and employees for operating and maintaining the Senior Citizen division.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Plan, schedule and supervise the day-to-day activities of the senior division including program activities, special programs and events as well as coordination of equipment maintenance and repair. 
  2. Effectively communicates and directs the work and efforts of subordinate personnel and volunteers for most effective utilization of resources including interviewing, hiring, training, evaluating and disciplining.
  3. Maintain appropriate records, prepare reports and monitor budget including revenue and expenditure projections plus supply and equipment needs. 
  4. Evaluates program effectiveness and efficiency to meet departmental goals.
  5. Creates senior programs to meet the needs of the current and future senior community. 
  6. Provide exceptional leadership, excellent customer service and effectively handle difficult situations involving the senior population.
  7. Coordinates City programs with government, charitable, and religious organizations to avoid duplication.
  8. Works as a team with administrative and other professional personnel to ensure that the senior services are well balanced, coordinated and integrated into the programming of the City of Bedford.  
  9. Collaborate with other organizations to plan and develop programs and activities or improve coordination of existing services.
  10. Modify classes and programs to accommodate individuals with a variety of abilities and disabilities. 
  11. Organize being the lead in meetings and participate in discussions with appropriate leaders to promote objectives of the senior programs.
  12. Maintains records of program activities, awards, equipment and inventory, and expenses. 
  13. May perform special assignments and handle special projects as required.
  14. Regular and timely attendance is required, as well as, the ability to get along with others in a professional and cordial manner. 


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 
Directly leads employees, contractors and volunteers in the Senior Center Division.  Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of this unit.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. 
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. 
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format. 
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. 
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Demonstrated skills in utilization of computer software.   
  • Basic knowledge of general office equipment. 
  • Must have demonstrated skills in:  maintaining good relations with the public; good working relationships with other employees and effective personnel management.

 

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four?year college or university in a related field; or two to three years of senior recreation programming experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have at least one year experience in a supervisory role.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Valid Texas Driver's License.
Notary Public or capable of becoming a Notary.
Desired:  Certified in CPR.
