Job Title:

Treatment Plant Mechanic

Summary:

The Treatment Plant Mechanic is responsible for performing skilled level work in all areas of preventative maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting on process equipment found in wastewater treatment plants, water treatment plants, and sewage pumping stations.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performing preventive maintenance rebuilding & repairing equipment
  • Applying new techniques & technology to improve equipment performance
  • Maintaining maintenance records & ensuring all safety policies are followed
  • Performs tests determining operating efficiency of equipment / documents readings / prepares reports
  • Read blueprints / manuals / specifications for troubleshooting work
  • Ensure facility’s ability to satisfy system demands
  • Responsible for work vehicle / tools / parts related to tasks
  • Accurately documents CMMS on daily work orders all maintenance activities performed
  • Perform general housekeeping in maintenance shop & throughout facility
  • Working knowledge of safety regulations / policies / practices
  • Communicate with management / supervisors / co-workers with respect in pleasant / courteous manner
  • Other duties may be assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of pumps of all types & sizes / air compressors / valves / chemical feed equipment / piping / associated buildings
  • Ability to read / write / work in confined spaces below ground including wet wells / climb ladders / work at heights
  • Experience with hand & power tools / welder cutting torch / digging tools / fork lift / cranes / boom trucks / chain falls
  • Lift & move up to 75 lbs.
  • Work in variety of environmental conditions
  • Work occasional overtime & subject to emergency call back as required
  • Ability to obtain & maintain City driving permit
  • Ability to obtain a Maintenance Technologist Certification: Level I, II, or III based on current certification level (NC AWWA-WEA)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Maintenance Technologist Certification or five years related mechanical experience
  • Experience within water or wastewater treatment facilities

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma/GED with three (3) years of relevant work experience; or an Associate's degree with one year of relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties
