Job Title:

Treatment Plant Electrician

Summary:

The Treatment Plant Electrician is responsible for maintaining the electrical systems within our water and waste water treatment plants, lift stations, and facilities. Works with an array of specialized electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment associated with the water treatment processes. 

Availability to work occasional overtime, subject to emergency call back and perform on-call duty rotation as required.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Installs wires / plugs / lights / switches required in making additions / extensions / alterations in electrical systems
  • Services / repairs / maintains feeder & control voltage lines / controls systems / switchboards / panels / interconnecting wiring
  • Recommends / designs / maintains / installs interior & exterior plant lighting systems including hazardous locations
  • Troubleshoots & repairs motor control circuits / pumps / valves / electrical / hydraulic interface devices / blower & compressor interface devices / associated breakers
  • Evaluates & solicits quotations / materials / service as necessary for electrical repairs & installation / reviews consultant plans / specifications / inspects & documents in-house  / outside plant upgrades or modifications
  • Performs preventative maintenance / inspects equipment / locate / corrects problems before breakdowns occur
  • Services / repairs / replaces defective parts in emergency generators / operations / related equipment
  • Installs / tests / repairs / maintains alarm boxes / circuits / underground circuits / signaling equipment
  • Tests / locates / repairs malfunctioning electrical circuits & equipment 
  • Work in confined spaces & climb ladders.
  • Maintains work records in work management system & prepares reports

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Basic mechanical understanding of pumps / valves / other ancillary equipment found in Water & Wastewater Treatment Facilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge of practices / methods / tools / materials used in electrical trade
  • Extensive knowledge of construction & electrical equipment used in power / lighting / control circuits
  • Knowledge of basic principles of electrical theory as applied to electrical circuits & wiring systems / ability to apply knowledge to work problems
  • Knowledge of treatment plant maintenance & repair 
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) & standards / appropriate safety knowledge
  • Skill / experience in use of wide variety of electrical & testing recording devices / mechanical tools / equipment
  • Ability to read & understand blueprints / technical manuals / specifications / complex verbal instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively & tactfully with staff / plant personnel / consultants / utilizing documented explanations / instructions / CAD / visual aids to convey ideas & teach operational skills
  • Work in variety of environmental conditions 
  • Ability to obtain & maintain City driving permit
  • North Carolina State Electrical Contractors License within eighteen months of hire date

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience within water or wastewater treatment facilities
  • North Carolina State Electrical Contractors License or Journeyman level experience

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma/GED with three (3) years of relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination and relevant experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully performt the essential job duties
