Description | Located 25 miles from Wichita, the City of Newton, Kansas, is a vibrant community of 19,327 residents who enjoy the small-town feel of Newton—where people know their neighbors and local business owners —and also have easy access to the amenities of a big city. Newton is the county seat of Harvey County and covers approximately 12 square miles. The City of Newton is seeking an experienced servant leader with a customer-service focus and a passion for local government to serve as its new City Manager. The City has a commission-manager form of government, with a five-member commission of elected officials, including the Mayor. The City’s management team consists of a talented group of professionals who have developed a close-knit and collaborative working relationship and a servant leadership culture. The incoming City Manager will find Newton a friendly, welcoming community with exciting potential for growth and development. A bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, or a related field and at least 10 years of local government experience are required, or any combination of skills, education, and experience. A master’s degree is preferred. Credentialed manager status is desirable. Residency within the City is preferred. The starting salary range for this position is $135,000-$165,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
