DEPARTMENT: DISTRICT ATTORNEY

JOB TITLE: INVESTIGATOR

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Conducts timely investigations in preparation for the establishment of trial ready cases.  Assists prosecutors in preparation of cases for trial by evaluation and analysis of investigative work by law enforcement agencies.  Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group, department, other work groups and departments.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Locates and interviews witnesses, victims and other persons deemed to be involved in criminal investigations.  Collects evidence and records.  Seizes contraband and arrests violators when necessary.  Reviews criminal cases as assigned in determining course of action to be followed.  Provides security, including transportation, for victims and witnesses during courtroom appearances and proceedings.  Conducts criminal/public integrity grand jury investigations of cases by collecting and analyzing data.  Testifies in court when necessary and is responsible for the transfer of evidence introduced in trial.  Photographs crime scenes and crime victims.  May fingerprint suspects in order to verify identity.  Copies existing audio and visual recordings and prepares other court exhibits using multi-media resources.  Assists in preparation and presentation of courtroom trial material.  Serves and assists with subpoenas, citations, arrest and search warrants.  Assists Chief Investigator and outside law enforcement agencies with criminal case information.  Maintains knowledge of past and current case law.  Responds to inquiries, resolves, and/or refers to proper person or agency.  Possesses computer based knowledge to include but not limited to downloading/installing programs, troubleshooting hardware issues, converting/editing video, researching and applying proper codecs and plays for videos.  At times applicant will also be asked to create detailed power point presentations and learn new technology to bring back and teach to the office.  Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers. 

 

REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma/GED; Intermediate TCOLE CertificationFive years Investigative experience, preferably in Major Crimes.  Good computer and typing skills; working knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing and database software.  Good verbal and written communication and organizational skills; interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, and elected officials.  Ability to complete projects in a timely manner.  Knowledge of TLETS/NLETS, TCIC/NCIC and JIMS/HPD computer databases.  Firearm Certification.

 

SALARY RANGE: Law Enforcement Grade 11, $2,184.80 biweekly or more based on experience 

**A supplement, dependent on the type of TCOLE certification held, is additional remuneration.
