Salary:  $64,352 - $105,449 Annually (Dependent on Qualifications)

ATTENDANCE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION ARE AS FOLLOWS: Non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Overview

The Crime Lab Manager will supervise and manage the daily operations and staff of the Police Forensic Services Division. This position ensures that the collection, examination, analysis, and interpretation of physical evidence in the scientific investigation of crimes meets the standards established by the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors – Laboratory Accreditation Board (ASCLD/LAB) and the Texas Forensic Science Commission.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Direct, oversee, coordinate and manage the operations of scientific analysis, forensic investigations and evidence handling.
  • Supervise managers and staff which includes prioritizing and assigning work, conducting evaluations, ensuring staff is adequately trained, ensure employees follow policies and procedures and maintaining a healthy and safe working environment.
  • Maintain ANAB – Laboratory Accreditation and Texas Forensic Science Commission accreditation requirements.
  • Monitor, train and conduct audits as well as proficiency and competency testing for all professional and technical staff to ensure compliance with accreditation and licensing requirements.
  • Oversee and participate in the development and administration of the divisions annual budget.
  • Train laboratory personnel, staff, prosecutors, police officers, detectives and supervisors in technical and administrative procedures as they apply to the collection, examination, analysis and interpretation of the physical evidence in the scientific investigation of crimes.
  • Act as liaison for the Forensic Services Division of the Corpus Christi Police Department with various local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, criminal justice agencies, other governmental agencies, vendors and the public.
  • Consult with and provide recommendations to investigators and prosecutors regarding the collection, examinations, analysis and interpretation of the physical evidence in the scientific investigation of crimes.
  • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.

 

Certifications, Licenses and Other requirements

  • CJIS less than full access certification required within 90 days of hire
  • Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Instructor certification required within 6 months of hire
  • Must become a member of the Texas Association of Crime Laboratory Directors after hire 6 months of hire

Qualifications 

  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum of five (5) years of directly related experience
  • A combination of education and pertinent experience may be considered
  • A valid driver's license is required. Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating 

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.

  • Selected applicants must be able to pass a background investigation and a pre-employment drug test.
  • Any position that lists a minimum qualification for education level and/or license/certification will require the applicant to provide proof of documentation if selected for hire into the position with the City of Corpus Christi.
