Description

Rowlett Fire Rescue would like to invite you to apply for the position of Firefighter! The following information is provided to give you a helpful overview, along with our expectations and requirements during the recruitment process.

The FY2022 Fire Department Step Plan can be accessed HEREApplicants hired who already hold the Paramedic certification will be hired at step 1 of the Paramedic pay range. Applicants hired who are working to obtain Paramedic certification will be hired at step 1 of the EMT pay range and will move to the Paramedic pay range once certification is obtained.

Recruitment Process:
1. Online Application - deadline is 01/20/2022 at 11:59pm

2. Written Examination and Physical Agility Examination - tentatively scheduled for 02/04/2022 and 02/05/2022
• Applicants who pass the preliminary background check will receive an email invitation to take the written examination and physical agility examination. Only applicants who are invited will be allowed to sit for the examination.
• Candidates will be able to schedule individual dates and times to test, if invited.

• Personal History Statement packets will be issued at the time of the written examination. The packet must be filled out correctly and completely and will not be accepted past the deadline, which will be specified at a later date.

3. Panel Interview - tentatively scheduled for 02/10/2022 - 02/11/2022
• If you are selected to interview, you will participate in a 20-30 minute interview with a panel of current Firefighters and Fire Officers. Candidates are ranked by the results of this panel.

4. Background Investigation
• A thorough investigation will be conducted based on the responses from your interview, Personal History Statement packet, and reference checks.

5. In-home Chief's Interview - tentatively scheduled for the week of 02/28/2022
• A Chief Officer from the department will interview you in your home.

6. Fire Chief's Interview - tentatively scheduled for the week of 03/07/2022
• Interview with the Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chief
• Original copies of certain documentation must be provided for verification purposes.
• Conditional offer of employment contingent upon medical examination

7. Medical Examination - tentatively scheduled for the week of 03/14/2022

8. Final offer of employment - tentative start date 03/30/2022

Essential Job Functions

Assess patient condition, take vital signs, provide basic life support until EMS personnel arrive; perform rescue operations from vehicles, confined spaces, etc; respond to public assistance calls. Suppress chemical, vehicle, building, trash and all other fires; salvage property, respond to hazardous conditions, protect lives by mitigating condition and/or evacuating the area.

Participate in and conduct training to maintain certification; enhance and maintain skills, knowledge of suppression materials, methods and techniques (involves classroom training and live evolutions); study territory and become familiar with streets and property location.

Participate in pre-fire planning, prevention and inspection activities; become acquainted with commercial building layouts and chemical storage locations.

Clean and check equipment: air pack, tools, oil, engine fuel levels, pumps, and radio; test and perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment; clean and maintain facility.

Participate in exercise activities to maintain fitness for duty to perform the essential functions of the job.

Educate public about fire safety, fire prevention at schools, public functions, health fairs, association meetings, etc.

Performs related duties and special projects as assigned

Minimum Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age on the date of the physical fitness examination
• Must be a U.S. citizen
• For out-of-state applicants, you must be registered or have filed with TCFP for fire certifications, and either TDSHS or National Registry for Paramedic certifications. This must be done by the close of the job posting to be considered for eligibility.

 If you are a Firefighter/Paramedic, you must have certification through TCFP, as well as either TDSHS or the National Registry.
 If you are a Paramedic only, you must have certification through TDSHS or the National Registry.
• If you are a Firefighter/EMT, you must have certification through TCFP, as well as either TDSHS or the National Registry, AND you must have begun coursework through a credentialed Paramedic school by 02/04/2022.

• If you are a Firefighter only you are not eligible to participate in the Rowlett Fire Rescue recruitment process for 2022.
• If you are an EMT only you are not eligible to participate in the Rowlett Fire Rescue recruitment process for 2022.
• If you are a Firefighter/EMT not enrolled in a credentialed Paramedic school you are not eligible to participate in the Rowlett Fire Rescue recruitment process for 2022.

Other Requirements

Must successfully complete all phases of the employment process as scheduled, including a physical agility test, polygraph examination, oral interview, stress test and drug screen. A work schedule of 48 hours on, 96 hours off is required. Mandatory holiday and weekend work.
