Description

Civil/Traffic Engineering Supervisor (Official Job Title: Engineer Professional):  This is a supervisory level position to support the Section Manager, supervise engineering staff, and provide professional and technical work of Engineering projects, studies and other technical projects as assigned.

Duties:

​​Transportation

  • Leads and Manages the preparation and reporting of various inquires and transportation studies including related to traffic, stormwater, roadways, landscaping, etc
  • Represent Transportation at various community meetings 
  • Investigates customer concerns/inquiries; meets with citizens to define and resolve issues
  • Interacts with the public and BCC to address complaints, concerns and questions as needed
  • Leads and Manages the review of construction plans of projects impacting operations referred by Land Development Services and Capital Projects
  • Perform final roadway field inspection for acceptance by public works for maintenance
  • Design road projects and elements of projects in support of Public Works, Capital Projects and Utilities

Management of Projects and Budgets

  • Plan, orchestrate and manage various projects and their budgets
  • Plan, orchestrate and manage section budget with daily expense management
  • Manage the various databases related to transportation and stormwater

Traffic Functions

  • Design and review MOT plans for events, construction and road closures
  • Prepare and make presentations to the Traffic Advisory Council, Planning Commission and the BCC
  • Support traffic field operations and systems as requested
  • Support traffic related capital improvement projects

Other Functions

  • Maintain transportation related GIS data on Intranet
  • Coordinate integration between CarteGraph, Maximo and GIS
  • Coordination with GIS to create and maintain Engineering related GIS layers
  • Support American with Disabilities Act (ADA) Design and field reviews

Manages proactive assessments of fraud awareness, prevention, detection and risk mitigation activities in area of responsibility; oversees financial, compliance, operational and performance audits; reviews audit findings and ensures appropriate controls are established and implemented.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering and a minimum of five (5) or more years of professional related engineering experience. 
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer by the State of Florida OR the ability to obtain the same in the State of Florida within six (6) months of the date of employment.
  • A Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering can be substituted for one year of the required experience.
  • A valid Driver’s License is required.

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Experience in all areas of roadway, stormwater and utilities design and project management
  • Experience in pavement management, road inspection, and traffic management
  • Advanced Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) certification
  • Knowledge of Asset management software 

Job Based Competencies:  Microsoft Office Suite; MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and Outlook.  Familiarity with Cartegraph and/or Maximo is desired.

Work Schedule:  This position has been deemed essential during man-made and natural emergencies.  Must be available to work in the Emergency Operation Center (EOC) before and during an emergency activation.
