Position Summary

Provides first level technical support to all City Departments. Maintains and performs preventative maintenance on City computer equipment and peripherals. Provides administrative support in daily office operations of the department. This work requires the candidate to be able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, use discretion and due diligence within a moderately stressful environment. The applicant must be able to follow any local, state and federal policies that are in place within the Information Technology Department. Other duties as assigned by other senior Information Technology staff.

Essential Job Functions

       1. PROVIDES first level technical support for hardware and software problems.

 

       2. INSTALLS computer hardware and software as required.

 

       3. DEPLOYS new PC’s and laptops.

            

       4. AVAILABLE for on-call duties per rotating schedule and for City Events as needed.

 

       5. PERFORMS preventative maintenance for all PC’s and printers as required.

 

      6. FACILITATES retirement of obsolete IT equipment.

 

      7. MAINTAINS inventory of computer hardware and software.

 

      8. PROVIDES support for audio-visual presentation equipment.

 

     9. PROVIDES application support as needed to ensure the continuance of City Operations. 

 

     10. PERFORMS all other related duties as assigned. 

 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

1. Ability to serve other City Departments in a diplomatic and professional manner, exercising good emotional control.  

 

2. Skills in multiple software applications, operating systems.

 

3. Skills in troubleshooting and repairing PC equipment malfunctions.  

 

4. Ability to understand basic networking concepts.

 

5. Ability to recognize and solve problems quickly, often under stressful conditions.  

 

6. Ability to coordinate multiple assignments and tasks to meet strict deadlines.  

 

7. Ability to follow oral and written instructions to complete assignments.  

 

8. Ability to read and understand technical material and information.  

 

9. Ability to prioritize and dispatch work orders and follow up to check resolution in a timely manner.  

 

10.  Ability to assist users with problems by perceptive questioning, using diagnostic software, or listening to procedures followed by users to determine the source of a problem.

 

11.  Ability to perform duties associated with the setup, configuration, installation, and maintenance of software products, peripherals, printers, scanners, PC’s, and other computer equipment.

 

12.  Ability to contribute as a team member with other Information Technology staff to provide technical solutions for City employees and external stakeholders.

 

Essential job functions, skills, knowledge and abilities

1. Must be able to obtain and maintain TCIC/NCIC access as required by CJIS regulations. 

2. Must be able to pass drug screening and any other screening pursuant to the regulations of the City of Hurst. 

3. Must be able to build a sustainable relationship of trust between themselves, the IT Department and other City Departments.

4. Must be able to read, understand and communicate clearly. 

5. Must be able to work as a positive team member and individually in accordance with the Hurst Way and City’s Code of Ideals.

 

Minimum Education, Certification, and Experience Requirements

Associates degree, vocational school degree (in applicable field), or equivalent plus a minimum of two years’ experience in a helpdesk or network environment and a valid Texas Driver’s License with a good driving record required.  A+ or equivalent certification preferred.
