Equipment Operator I - Drainage

$13.42 Hourly; Monday - Friday 7am-3:30pm

Job Summary

Operate dump trucks and other equipment involving a variety of tasks relating to the maintenance and construction of the City's creeks, drainage channels, detention ponds, and storm drain systems. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

•Drive various trucks to haul dirt, gravel, debris, and other material and equipment used in the maintenance and construction of City creeks and drainage systems, and demolition of condemned buildings. 

•Operate lawn mowers and weed eaters in the maintenance of City detention ponds and drainage channels. 

•Use hand tools in manual labor tasks associated with maintenance and construction projects such as cutting up trees, shoveling, hammering stakes and picking and sweeping.  

•Perform normal preventative maintenance such as cleaning, greasing and oiling trucks and equipment. Includes use of shovel and pick to dislodge mud from truck beds and loader buckets. 

•Other miscellaneous duties: flag traffic, set up cones and barricades, fill sand bags, various work in emergency situations such as: sanding icy streets and oil spills, cutting fallen trees.


Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED preferred
Requires sufficient knowledge of traffic laws and shills associated with driving a truck in order to perform normal work as required. Equipment operating experience can be accumulated during the first six months of employment in the position.
Must live within a thirty minute response time of the City Services Center. Must possess a valid Texas,
Class A CDL drivers’ license with air brake endorsement.
Defensive driving certification preferred, but may be obtained during the first year of employment in the position.
