Job Title:

Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator - McAlpine Creek Waste Water Plant

Summary:

The purpose of this position is to assist in the operation of the wastewater treatment plant.  This is accomplished by working an assigned shift at the plant; learning from other operators about plant equipment and/or processes and assisting with monitoring equipment and processes for proper operations. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Observes/reports on facility conditions/operations
• Uses biological/chemical parameters to analyze overall wastewater treatment plant operations
• Performs laboratory analysis on wastewater samples to recommend/implement operational changes
• Maintains facility equipment and housekeeping in assigned area

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Ability to lift minimum of 50 lbs. and be able to work around chemicals, solvents, and dust in an industrial environment
• Good oral/written communication skills
• Mathematical and computer operation skills
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors, during inclement weather, and weekends and holidays as assigned
• Ability to obtain NC Wastewater Operator Certification within the following time frames from the first available Grade I Certification Class:
  • NC Grade I Wastewater Certification within twelve months
  • NC Grade II Wastewater Certification within two years
  • NC Grade III Wastewater Certification within four years
  • NC Grade IV Wastewater Certification within six years

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in wastewater treatment plant
• High degree of skill/expertise combined with knowledge of the science of wastewater treatment

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School diploma/GED
