Salary: $18.17 to $26.35 depending on experience

GENERAL SUMMARY
 
To perform journey level repair work on gas, diesel and heavy equipment; to diagnose and repair electrical systems, hydraulic systems and air conditioners; to perform state safety compliance inspections; and to diagnose and repair a wide variety of gasoline or diesel powered heavy equipment with unique and complex drive, control and braking units.
 
SUPERVISION
 
General supervision is provided by the Equipment Services Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. All behaviors comply with the Code of Conduct & Rules of Behavior outlined in chapter 8 of the General Government Policies and Procedures Manual.
     
  2. Inspect, diagnose and repair mechanical difficulties on diesel powered heavy construction and power driven equipment including trucks, tractors, bull dozers, backhoe, diesel trucks, asphalt rollers and paving machines; diagnose cause of malfunction using knowledge of electronic and mechanical test equipment. 
     
  3. Perform inspection of assigned equipment; replace or repair faulty parts and equipment.
     
  4. Overhaul, repair, rebuild and adjust engines, transmissions, differentials and clutches; perform inspection of assigned equipment; repair and replace accessories on equipment.
     
  5. Tune up engines by replacing ignition parts and cleaning and adjusting carburetors.
     
  6. Diagnose and repair computerized control systems, ignition systems, power steering and cooling systems.
     
  7. Repair, adjust and replace brake systems including disc, hydraulic and air brakes.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION
 
Formal or informal education of training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
 
EXPERIENCE
 
Two years of experience repairing and maintaining gasoline and diesel engines.
 
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
 
Possession of a valid driver's license and obtain a Class A Texas driver's license or obtain a Class A commercial driver's license within 90 days of employment as a condition of continued employment. Failure to obtain a Class A driver's license within 90 days of employment will result in non-disciplinary termination.

Monday-Friday 2:30 p.m., to 11:00 p.m.
