Description | Lead Water Operator To submit a formal application, please visit www.templetx.gov/jobs Job Summary Supervisory work involving the operation and maintenance of all water production facilities, including Conventional and Membrane Water Treatment Plants, water booster pump stations, and system storage tanks. Under the general direction of the Treatment Chief of Operations; the Lead Operator is responsible for the safe and reliable operations of the water plant; preparing reports and records; responsible for directing, assisting and evaluating job performance documents and establishing safety procedures of operators; daily contact with public requires courtesy and diplomacy. Essential Duties & Responsibilities •Work closely with Treatment Chief of Operations to keep inventory of treatment chemicals; track maintenance of work orders; control plant expenditures; and closely monitor chemical dosage changes to ensure water quality. •Prepare all required reports; prepare for and respond to audits and inspections from governmental control agencies. •Assist Treatment Chief of Operations with evaluation of plant operator’s performance by inspecting water treatment processes; interpret physical characteristics and lab analysis to ensure water quality always meets State and Federal Regulations. •Schedule shift work for water plant operators; attend water associations meetings, schools and seminars; instruct personnel on safety procedures, safety equipment and chemicals. Check and verify hours worked on time cards. Monitor sick leave and vacation time used. •Conduct educational tours of water plant to visitors. Maintain the optimum level of security at all facilities. •Miscellaneous job functions include opening and closing valves at a control panel or manually with a wrench; transfer chemicals to storage tanks; change out chlorine cylinders; monitor all lab duties; attend meetings and classes for renewal and/or upgrade of water certification. •Perform and assist with maintenance on all equipment associated with the water plant including maintenance in lagoons, recycle and transfer pumps; backwash filters; clean clarifiers and monitor water storage tanks. •Prepare and maintain reports and records, including those required by Federal, State and local agencies regarding the testing of water. •Comply with established safety procedures and proper use of safety equipment. •Consult with the Treatment Chief of Operations on treatment plant water conditions. Perform the duties of Treatment Chief of Operations as needed. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or GED equivalent required. |
