What You Will Be Doing

The Development Engineer is responsible for performing engineering tasks related to development cases (platting, site plan and zoning approval process), the issuance of building and other permits and assistance of the creation of applicable comprehensive planning documents. Tasks include the review of preliminary stormwater plans, preliminary grading and erosion control plans, preliminary utility plans, traffic impact analysis studies, and conducting site inspections associated with proposed development cases; reviewing building permit applications to ensure that stormwater and grading activities associated with the permit application adhere to approved plans, applicable ordinances and best management practices;  assisting in preparing and implementing engineering related comprehensive master plan elements, collecting pertinent implementation data on master plans programs, management of the wayfinding signage system maintenance program, and review of telecommunication facility permits located in public right of way. Other essential functions include:

  • Technical Excellence: Review and provide professional comments on preliminary drainage plans associated with site plan and zoning proposals. Review residential building plan permits to ensure that the drainage plan submitted with a permit matches the approved drainage plan. Assist building inspectors and code officers in the field to assess proper grading and benching of lots to ensure compliance with the approved drainage plan. Review of Erosion Control Plans. Periodic assessment of sedimentation control devices to ensure compliance with City and State requirements. Assist with the City's wayfinding signage maintenance program. Review and process 5G small node permit applications located on City or State right of ways or other public lands. 
  • Collaboration: Assist the Public Works department in evaluating and addressing drainage complaints. Assist in the preparation and implementation of the City's Water, Wastewater, and Drainage plan. Review and provide professional comment on traffic impact analysis reports submitted as part of a site plan or zoning case. Assist in the coordination of the City's Mobility Plan.

What You Bring To Us

  • Bachelor's Degree in civil engineering or other engineering principle from an accredited college or university.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience. 
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas
  • Ability to remain flexible with your schedule. Work may require unusual hours and the ability to be on call after business hours.
