The Community Services Intern is a qualified undergraduate or graduate student majoring in Community Development, Construction Science, Architecture, Urban Planning, Economic Development, Geography, Political Science, Public Administration or related field. The goal of the internship is to provide the student a meaningful internship experience in the functions and work of a Community Services (Community Development, Code Enforcement, and Northgate District Management) department in a municipal setting.
 
The Community Services intern performs a variety of administrative and operational duties as developed and assigned by the department, to include research, information-gathering on topics of relevance, meeting and interacting with various stakeholders, working  on projects as assigned and involved in day-to-day functions of the department.

 

 Principal Duties:
  1. Provide support in variety of administrative and operational staff functions.
  2. Assist in research and collection of data in support of department's services, activities, and programs.
  3. Communicate with stakeholders, other City employees and public officials in support of the City's efforts in development, implementation, oversight and reporting on local, state, and federally-funded community development programs, projects, and activities, including but not limited to affordable housing and commercial construction and rehabilitation.
  4. Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.

 

 Qualifications:
Required:       
Currently undergraduate or graduate student in the study of Community Development, Construction Science, Architecture, Urban Planning, Economic Development, Geography, Political Science, Public Administration or related field.  Knowledge of research techniques, methods, and procedures.  Ability to operate a variety of office equipment to include a personal computer and a variety of computer software.  Excellent interpersonal skills.  Possession of a valid Texas Driver's License.
                       
Preferred:     
  
Professional municipal government experience. Experience in working in a Community Development program.
