The Community Education Intern is a qualified undergraduate or graduate student (all majors welcome) with an interest in learning about and facilitating community risk reduction regarding injury & fire prevention in a municipal setting. The goal of the internship is to provide the student a meaningful internship experience in the functions and work of risk reduction as it relates to the Fire Department.
 
The Community Education Intern performs a variety of administrative and operational duties as developed and assigned by the Community Risk Reduction Specialist, to include research, information-gathering on topics of relevance, meeting and interacting with various employees/citizens, working on projects as assigned, and involved in day-to-day functions of the Fire Department.

 

 Principal Duties:
  1. Assist in the research & development of risk reduction programs to prevent fires and injuries.
  2. Provide support in scheduling programs.
  3. Assist with social media posts and campaigns.
  4. Learn about and conduct public relations and fire and life safety presentations.
  5. Create new and unique lesson plans for persons of all ages regarding risk reduction.
  6. Research and develop public media campaigns.
  7. Assist in writing fire and injury prevention grants and fundraising requests.
  8. Assist with seasonal risk reduction programs: Citizens Fire Academy, Shattered Dreams, Junior Firefighter Camp, etc.

 

 Qualifications:
Required:       
Currently undergraduate or graduate student (all majors accepted) interested in community safety, injury prevention, marketing, public relations, information/education. Ability to operate a variety of office equipment to include a personal computer and a variety of computer software.  Excellent interpersonal/communication skills.  Possession of a valid Texas Driver's License. Reliable transportation.

 

 Supplemental Information:

Dates: Spring 2020 Semester
Hours: Part-Time & Flexible (day/evening/weekend hours available)
