SALARY: $16.17 - $23.45 Hourly (Depending on experience and certification)

GENERAL SUMMARY

Equipment Mechanic is responsible for the repair, servicing, preventative maintenance, of gasoline and diesel-powered automobiles, light and medium duty trucks and equipment.

SUPERVISION
  • General supervision is provided by the Shift Supervisor of Equipment Services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • All behaviors comply with the Code of Conduct & Rules of Behavior outlined in chapter 8 of the General Government Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Diagnose problems with City vehicles; repair air conditioners, electrical systems, front-ends, hydraulic systems, drive-trains and other vehicle parts; performs regular inspection on assigned vehicles; tune and adjust parts and settings to obtain optimum performance.
  • Perform tune-ups and repairs on gas engines; remove and disassemble units.
  • Diagnose and repair brake systems; make adjustments to air brakes and micro brakes; replace and/or repair worn, broken or malfunctioning parts; reassemble and install unit.
  • Clean and stock the Service Center shop.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION 
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Completion of a technical or trade school program in automotive technology is preferred.


EXPERIENCE

  • Two years of experience in the repair and maintenance of automobiles, light and medium duty trucks and equipment

OR

  • Completion of a technical or trade school program in automotive technology will be considered in evaluation of total experience.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Must obtain a Class B commercial driver's license within 90 days of employment as a condition of continued employment.  Failure to obtain a Class B driver's license within 90 days of employment will result in non-disciplinary termination.
  • Must obtain a Texas Department of Public Safety/Emissions Inspection Certificate within 6 months of hire.

WORK SCHEDULE (2nd Shift)

  • Monday - Friday; 2:30 PM - 11:00 PM      

REQUIRED TESTING (only if interviewed)

  • Mechanic skills assessment administered by Equipment Services.
