Salary:  $73,758 - $120,861 Annually (Dependent on Qualifications)

ATTENDANCE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION ARE AS FOLLOWS: Non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Overview

The Mechanical Engineer will provide independent, timely and professional mechanical engineering products, services and consultation for the planning, design, construction and maintenance of facilities for the City of Corpus Christi, including minor works projects, special projects, demolition, maintenance, space utilization, and facilities development.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Perform design analyses and calculation for mechanical projects and is responsible for the preparation of final detailed working drawings, comparative cost analysis, Request for Proposals (RFPs), and project specifications for a wide variety of facility types.
  • Support Asset Management for proper scope and budgeting during project development process.
  • Perform Quality Assurance reviews of drawings, specifications, calculations, cost estimates, and studies prepared by private architectural and engineering (A/E) design firms.
  • Review submittals for completeness, functionality, sound engineering practice and compliance with applicable local codes and state standards.
  • Act as final authority on scope of compliance and resolve design review comments with the A/E firm to correct deficiencies.
  • Perform technical administration of designs, design management and coordination.
  • Provide post construction award services (PCAS) including review and approval of contractor’s submittals to determine that they conform to the requirements of the contract drawings and specifications.
  • Review and approve shop drawing samples of materials and components, catalog information, certificates of compliance, Value Proposals (VECPs), and provide technical responses to Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • Plan, direct, and supervise activities involving work planning, estimating, execution and quality control of facility systems.
  • Perform energy surveys/interviews to assess facility and infrastructure condition.
  • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.

 

Certifications, License or other requirements 

  • Registration as a Mechanical Professional Engineer in the State of Texas required
  • Registration as a Mechanical Professional Engineer in another state, or previous registration in Texas or another state with the ability to obtain State of Texas registration within six (6) months of hire
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) required at time of hire
  • Must have working knowledge of Facilities Planning Systems to be able to recommend improvement measures to the process

 

Qualifications 

  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience
  • A valid driver's license is required. Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating 

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.

  • Selected applicants must be able to pass a background investigation and a pre-employment drug test.
  • Any position that lists a minimum qualification for education level and/or license/certification will require the applicant to provide proof of documentation if selected for hire into the position with the City of Corpus Christi.
