Overview

The Assistant Director of Aviation coordinates Air Services Development planning to grow commercial air services at the Corpus Christi International Airport. The purpose of this position is to grow air service, reduce enplanement leakage, address the need for more demand for new and expanded air services and any other projects that may increase air service at the Corpus Christi International Airport. 

The Assistant Director serves in a senior leadership role to support the department Director through long term strategic planning and displaying sound judgement in department programs and services.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate Air Services Development planning to grow commercial air services
  • Coordinate and ensure the daily operations at the Corpus Christi International Airport by assisting in planning, organizing, budgeting, operating and maintaining the facility and infrastructure in compliance with Federal, State and local rules, regulations and ordinances consistent with stated objectives of the Director of Aviation
  • Conduct long range planning for the department including capital improvement plans and organizational strategies for operation and ongoing development of the CCIA
  • Manage, plan, organize and implement programs within policies; reports progress of major actions/projects to Director of Aviation and Assistant City Manager as necessary
  • Supervise CCIA staff with project assignments, performance evaluation coordination/review, employee disciplinary issues and recruitment and retention of department employees
  • Assume responsibilities of Director of Aviation in his/her absence
  • Coordinate daily operations of CCIA in support of the departmental mission
  • Conduct long range planning including capital and organizational strategies
  • Must be able to lead people toward meeting the organization’s vision, mission and goals by providing an inclusive work environment that fosters the development of others, facilitates cooperation and teamwork, and supports constructive resolution of conflicts
  • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to read, understand and apply best practices related to news and current events that relate to Aviation operations, procedures, and required training
  • Must have strong understanding of budget process, terminology and procedures to prepare multi-year pro-formas for projects and proposals and Debt Service Schedule for capital funding
  • Must possess a high level of writing ability to complete financial analysis summaries, grant applications, City Council Action Request memoranda and composition of various business correspondence

Certifications, Licenses of Other Requirements

  • NIMS 100, 200, 700 & 800
  • Basic knowledge in FAA Part 139 and TSA 1542
  • Certified member of the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) or Airports Council International (ACI)

Qualifications 

·         Requires a Bachelor’s degree

·         Minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience

·         A valid driver's license is required. Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
