Grade:  209

Salary:  $47,545 - $77,908 Annually (Dependent on Qualifications)

ATTENDANCE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION ARE AS FOLLOWS: Non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Responsibilities 

The Engineer I will demonstrate a commitment to providing continuous quality service, protect and promote the brand, image, and reputation of the City, while striving to exceed the needs and expectations of our citizens and employees.

  • Prepare engineering design calculations, schedules, bid calculations, and preliminary cost estimates.
  • Conduct field investigations and visits to future project and current construction sites.
  • Assist with preparation and review of engineering reports, including all construction plans specifications, schedules, contract documents and field data.
  • Work with Engineers and staff to develop project plans, specifications, schedules and budgets.
  • Research design specifications for inclusion in the project.
  • Assist with preparation of design amendments, change orders, and other related documents as necessary for Street Operations projects.
  • Work with Engineers and Construction Contractors to develop changes to building plans and specifications, when necessary, based on factors unknown during the planning stages.
  • Interpret maps, plats, and construction drawings.
  • Assist in the preparation of bid documents for public works projects and the dissemination of the bid packet to prospective contractors.
  • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications 

  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • No prior experience required
  • May also have taken the EIT exam together with Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • A valid driver's license is required. Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating 

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.

Selected applicants must be able to pass a background investigation and a pre-employment drug test.

Any position that lists a minimum qualification for education level and/or license/certification will require the applicant to provide proof of documentation if selected for hire into the position with the City of Corpus Christi.
