Special Operations Clerk

Summary: Under basic supervision, prepares Odessa Police Department (OPD) special operations case reports, performs research, maintains case files, and enters data into secure computer databases.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:  

  • Maintains and updates case files and secure computer database, prepares and processes legal and technical documents, researches and compiles information for special operations cases and creates reports as directed; duties may vary according to job assignment.
  • Performs special case management duties for OPD officers as directed; collects, shares and distributes information with other law enforcement and justice agencies within scope of authority.
  • Maintains the absolute confidentiality of all records and information.
  • Supports the departmental operations with regular and timely attendance.
  • Supports the relationship between the City of Odessa and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines: High School Diploma or GED required, AND one year of computer experience required. Background investigation and polygraph is required.

Knowlege of:

  • Principles and practices of confidential records management and file maintenance.
  • Business computers and standard and specialized software applications.

Skill in:

  • Maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers.
  • Following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

License and certification requirements: A valid Texas State Driver's License is required. Certification for access to Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS) from Texas Department of Public Safety may be required.

Physical demands and working environment: Work is performed in a standard office environment.

Skills test: Typing test with 30wpm with 2 or less errors.
